Terms of Use

What these tools are for, what they are emphatically not for, and the conditions under which they are offered.

Effective

Does not comply: Electrical work is dangerous. Read this one. Tools on this site are for planning and reference only. Always verify against the current edition of your local electrical code and consult a licensed electrician before performing electrical work.

Agreement

By using MyElectricCalculator you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. They apply to every page, calculator, reference table and article here.

What these tools are

Planning and estimation aids. They implement published formulas and reproduce published code tables so you can work out roughly what a circuit needs and check the arithmetic against a citation. They are the equivalent of a well-annotated reference card, not of an engineer's stamp.

What they are not

  • Not professional advice. Nothing here constitutes engineering, electrical, safety or legal advice, and using this site creates no professional relationship of any kind.
  • Not a design. A calculated conductor size is one input to a design. It does not account for your equipment's listing conditions, the condition of an existing installation, coordination with upstream protection, or anything the code leaves to engineering judgement.
  • Not the code. The site references published standards; it does not reproduce them and cannot replace them. Your Authority Having Jurisdiction enforces a specific adopted edition, possibly amended, and this site does not know which.
  • Not an inspection. A result here has no standing with any inspector, insurer or authority.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for verifying every figure you take from this site against the current code edition adopted where the work is being done, and for having electrical work designed, carried out and inspected by people licensed to do it. If a result here conflicts with the adopted code, a manufacturer's instructions, a listing condition or a qualified professional's judgement, those take precedence over this site, always.

Do not use these tools as the sole basis for energising, modifying or signing off any installation.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.

We make a genuine effort at accuracy — the methodology page sets out exactly how, and is equally explicit about where transcription is incomplete and which figures are market conventions rather than code requirements. That effort is not a guarantee. Tables contain transcription errors, formulas have edge cases, and standards are revised. We do not warrant that the site is accurate, complete, current, or available without interruption.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MyElectricCalculator and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary — arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site. That expressly includes property damage, fire, electric shock, injury, death, failed inspection, rework, project delay and financial loss.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where the law does not permit it to be excluded or limited.

Trademarks and standards

NEC and National Electrical Code are registered trademarks of the National Fire Protection Association. BS 7671 is published by the IET and BSI. AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3008 are published by Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand. This site is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to any of them.

Those standards are commercially licensed documents. Referring to a table by its number and stating what it requires is reference, not republication, and this site does not reproduce the documents themselves. Obtain your own copy of the standard that governs your work.

Using the content

You are welcome to use this site in your work: read it on site, check a figure, quote a result to a colleague, cite a page in a document, or send someone a link. Teaching from it is encouraged, and a link back is appreciated.

Please do not republish the written explanations and worked examples wholesale as your own, or scrape the site to reassemble it elsewhere. Automated access should respect the content-signal declaration in our robots.txt, which permits search indexing and reference use and declines model training. Code tables and physical constants are facts and are nobody's property, including ours — the writing around them is what this asks you to respect.

Availability and changes

The site is offered free of charge with no guarantee of continued availability. Pages, calculators and tables may be changed, corrected or withdrawn at any time — indeed a calculator found to disagree with its own reference table will be changed as quickly as we can manage.

These terms may be revised. The effective date at the top of this page changes when they are, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revision.

Getting in touch

A contact address is not published yet. One will be added here, and this page will say so from the date it changes. Until then there is no route to reach us about this page, which we would rather state plainly than paper over with an address that bounces.
